FAQ Bespoke

CAN YOU WORK WITH A STONE WE SUPPLY?
No, we only work with stones we have sourced and selected from carefully vetted suppliers. This is the only way we can guarantee the integrity and quality of the entire piece we create for you, which includes all the materials used and not just the ring itself.

CAN YOU PROVIDE A ROUGH PRICE?
This is very tricky to provide without knowing more details about what you are looking for. What we generally need to know to be able to provide any kind of estimate are things like: what metal do you want to work with? what gemstones will be involved (please describe their type / quality / size) and send us an image reference for the style you had in mind.

Another easy way to estimate price before enquiring about your bespoke request is to use our existing collections as a guide, to see what the different designs are roughly priced at. Going bespoke usually means the price will be slightly higher than if you were buying READY TO SHIP or MADE TO ORDER , because with bespoke we will be working one on one with you from scratch to create something unique specific to your requirements.

CAN YOU REWORK MY HEIRLOOM / SENTIMENTAL JEWELLERY?
Yes we can, we love reimagining old pieces into new. Our minimum spend for bespoke will apply to this so please expect the price to start from $1,500 for straightforward jobs in 14k gold involving simple single stone styles, and more if working with more complex multi-stone designs. Please send us an email at banu@der-liebling.com with photos of the piece you wish to rework along with any details you know about its materials.

WHERE DO YOUR STONES COME FROM?
It depends on what stone! With coloured stones particularly, the origin can vary greatly even in the same mineral family, because some colours will be more prevalent in some parts of the world than others. For example, teal sapphires are mostly found in places like Australia and Madagascar, but they can also come from Sri Lanka or USA. Our off-white, grey and champagne diamonds mostly come from Botswana. Wherever possible we will always let you know where the stones in your piece have come from.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MADE TO ORDER AND BESPOKE?
All the designs in our MADE TO ORDER section are customisable and perfect if you want something slightly personalised without having to go full bespoke. These designs are a permanent part of our collection so we can create them at a slightly quicker turnaround than if you were to start from scratch and go full bespoke.  Commissioning BESPOKE means designing and making something entirely new which does not yet exist. This premium service will naturally take longer to do but at the end of it you will get an entirely custom piece created specific to your requirements.
CAN YOU CREATE SOMETHING MADE TO ORDER IN LESS THAN 6 WEEKS?
No, we always require 6 working weeks to create your made to order requests. If you need something quicker, please browse our READY TO SHIP section for designs which are in stock and available for immediate shipping.

HOW LONG DOES A BESPOKE PROCESS TAKE?
It varies greatly, but we recommend allowing at minimum 1-2 months in total for the entire process to be safe.
The bespoke process is made up of three stages:
CONSULTATION
SOURCING & DESIGN
PRODUCTION
How long the entire process takes can vary greatly depending on you and how decisive you are during the first two parts of the process.  We can’t put a number on how long the consultation, sourcing and design bit takes, because if for example you need to see many stone options, or request many tweaks to the design, this will lengthen the process to delay when we can start making. If you want to know a rough average as guide, the sourcing and design stage normally takes at least 2-3 working weeks. Once a final design has been approved by you, we can begin actually making your order. Production of the actual piece will always complete in 2-3 working weeks, so this needs to be added on top of the sourcing & design stage.

If you are commissioning a bespoke engagement ring, please do not make any bookings or plans to propose before the ring is ready.   Please read our BESPOKE GUIDE before commissioning bespoke.

CAN YOU RESIZE?
All of our rings come with 1 free resize. If you are buying a READY TO SHIP ring and want it resized before you receive it, you can request a custom size at time of purchase by sending us an email at banu@der-liebling.com and we will make sure it gets resized to your custom size. Please note however that once resized, the ring will have been altered permanently as per your request so it will no longer be returnable. If in doubt it is best to try the ring on first before requesting a resize.  If you are going for something MADE TO ORDER or BESPOKE, then the ring will be made to your requested custom size from the start. You will then have 1 free resize opportunity post purchase to make an adjustment for the perfect fit. Resizing takes 3-4 days to process.

Please get in touch by email to banu@der-liebling.com within 24 HOURS of receipt to let us know if you are looking to return an item.
